Food // Delicious Brum Afternoon Tea at the Park Regis

Oops! How has it been 2 weeks since I last blogged… work has been busy busy busy! Anyways here I am ready to catch up on all things from the past few weeks!

January’s a busy busy month so I’ve been thinking back to all the tasty food we had over Christmas. In between Christmas and New Year we used a groupon voucher to go for afternoon tea at the Park Regis in Brum. It was such a great deal of 50% (see here).
Who else loves afternoon tea? ME! It combines all my favourite things… cakes, tasty sandwiches and scones with lots of clotted cream 😍
So here’s my little round up of our sweet treats… As soon as we got there we got a glass of bubbles which went down so well – makes afternoon tea just a bit more special.
As with all afternoon tea we got to pick our tea. I went for Darjeeling and Tim went for an Assam. Oh so good!
The sandwiches were a tasty starter – out of the turkey, salmon and egg, my favourite had to be the egg which even had a little scotch egg on top.
I then had a debate with the hubby about whether the scones or the cakes are the best bit about afternoon tea. Cakes are oh so good and my sweet tooth loves them so much but scones have to be the winner every single time. What would afternoon tea be without scones… it’d just be a tea and cake… just not the same!
Then there’s the whole debate about how you say scone… Is it scone like ‘bone’ or scone like ‘gone’… Always the first one for me.
And that’s not the only debate that surrounds the scone. Do you put the cream on first followed by the jam or jam first followed by the cream… I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s debated with friends, family and the hubby about it… Am I right?! I’m definitely a follower of the Devon method which is clotted cream spread over the scone followed by a dollop of jam on top. (The main reason for this is that I love cream and you can get the most cream coverage this way… DIVINE!) Tim prefers the Cornish method which is the other way around… jam followed by cream. The cream to jam ratio just isn’t the same…
My hubby has even tried to confuse me by doing it my way hoping to seriously confuse me! 😂
We demolished the cakes first so we could save the scones (the best bit!) for the end. Keeping with the Christmas theme, there was a mince pie flavoured cupcake, a mandarin cheesecake and a slice of chocolate yule log 💕
We spent a leisurely 2 hours chilling and taking our time drinking our tea and eating our way through all the sandwiches, cakes and scones. Its the perfect chill time activity and Tim and I love trying out new afternoon teas. It’s a good chance to catch up over one of our fav hobbies… eating yummy food and sweet treats… who’s with me?!
The afternoon tea is on the 4th floor in the bar area of the Park Regis and the decor is on point. I forgot to take a pic of the bathroom but it was defo bathroom goals!
I’d also love to go back in the summer when its warmer and enjoy a cocktail on the terrace.
Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend! I spent a lovely day down in London with some friends catching up over tasty food. I’ll blog more on that later but until then I’ve got some very important questions…
What’s your favourite bit of afternoon tea? The cakes or scones?
Are you a scone cream then jam person or jam then cream??? Chose wisely…
Until next time,
Cathers x
