April Recap // Easter Weekend, Bottomless Pimms and Spring Blossom

It’s been about a month since my last recap post so this is definitely overdue! I was going to go for a swim last night but have traded that in to sit in the garden and enjoy the sun – there’s something about just sitting in the sun and chilling after work which just puts the world to rights.

So what’s been going on…

March was full of tasty treats and knowing me tasty treats are what gets me through!

The first week of April we spent in Florida chilling with family, going to theme parks and topping up our tans (see overall recap here and theme park recap here). The weather was perfect and it was a much needed break from work. We only went for a week and it would have been great if it had been longer but was a nice escape. These are some of my fav pics:

As we were expecting, we came back to manic weeks at work so don’t have many pics over that first week back except for lots of stories with tea to keep me going at work!

That weekend we spent with Tim’s parents and spent the Saturday recouping after such a manic week! We even managed to watch a documentary on Florida which brought back all the lovely memories from our trip. We also had this absolutely delicious pudding which had been in the freezer from Christmas. It was all the creamy goodness of meringue, raspberries and cream mmmm!

After another very busyyyyyy week it was the long Easter weekend before we knew it! Definitely one good thing about this time of the year… all of the bank holidays. And this Easter weekend was nice and hot! Our peony plant even started to flower which was very exciting. Look how pretty it is!

On Good Friday a good friend of Tim’s came over and we had our first Pimms of the year. Pimms is one of my favourite summer drinks – easy to drink and all the tasty fruit – strawberries, cucumber and mint all the time! What’s your go to Pimms fruit?
We ended up getting through a whole bottle of Pimms before we know it! We sat in the garden for a good few hours catching up, taking in the sun and eating all the crisps 😊

That evening we went to The Glee Club in Birmingham which was good fun. I find that you can be hit and miss with some of the comedians but there’s always a couple of good ones in the line up. We were assigned seats near the back which were fine by us, but at the interval a member of staff came over and asked if we wanted to move to the empty seats in the first row as there’d be some no shows. Fine by us although we were in the firing line of the comedians!

The next morning we went for brunch at Loch Fyne in Solihull. I’ve never been before but always meant to go. When we went they had a special offer on brunch for £18. You got a brunch item, a hot drink, a cold drink, toast and a glass of champers. Not bad if you ask me! I do love a good brunch on the weekend – who’s with me? We all went for Eggs Benedict and tea – YUM!

Easter Saturday and Sunday we went down south to see my parents. Their house is just so quaint and full of character – it was nice to just sit in the living room with the doors to the garden open and chill with a cup of tea. We did of course get outside and had more Pimms! My family love Pimms when the sun is out. Mum even made one of her strawberry pavlovas as pudding to Easter dinner which was just perfect. Makes me think of Summer. 🌞
On our way into Bray we saw signs for a art sale so we walked over and had a look around. The art was lovely and at a good price too. We’ve been looking for some art for the house but everything we’ve seen so far has just been too pricey. We ended up getting the below painting of an Italy scene for £125 which we didn’t think was too bad! It’s a bit different and I love the use of the different greys/ white and then the pops of red/ pink for the flowers. It’s now up in our living room and we love it!

The Easter weekend was the last weekend I can remember the blossom being around. It seemed to disappear all of a sudden! We went on a walk along the Thames and saw so many lovely huge houses… I like to think one day we’ll be able to get one but in my dreams 😋
The blossom on the walk was gorgeous… for some reason it just makes me so happy – maybe its the colour and the signs that Spring is under way and it’ll be Summer before we know it.

Easter Monday was a fairly chilled one for us. We spent the day enjoying the gorgeous sun again and spent a lot of it sorting the garden. The day started with eggs – I have a thing for a fried egg on toast so Tim whipped this up for me while he had scrambled eggs. Long weekends are just the best… especially ones that are 4 days long! All about those lie ins <3
We have a Melbicks garden centre not too far away so we went by to buy a few plants for the garden. The garden is finally getting more established and we’re loving it. I can’t wait to spend more time in it this summer. The climbers in our garden have also started flowers – I love the pops of pink and purple that are starting to come through. We even got a little bird bath which we’ve put at the end of the garden – think it just finishes it off quite nicely.
To finish off the long weekend we had our first BBQ of the year. Nothing better than sitting in the garden having a BBQ with the sun shining down. Had to have some fruity ciders to finish it off.
We had beef burgers, salad, chilli chicken and sweetcorn. What’s your staple BBQ? The next BBQ we have we’ll definitely try grilled halloumi and maybe prawns too.

Looking back over the Easter weekend it was fairly choka but was definitely good fun! Again the next week was busy busy busy with work so not much to recap there. The last weekend in April was fairly chilled and I finally was able to get a little bit of painting done. To add to my collection of places we’ve visited, I did one of Florida – inspo was from our recent trip to Florida which seems like a life time ago now. What do you think?
I keep saying I’ll get them all framed but still haven’t gotten around to it. Definitely a task for this weekend! I’ve now done, New York, Venice, LA, Yosemite and Florida. I might trying doing a Copenhagen one following my latest trip there. Any other suggestions?

To break up the first week of May I went to Pieminister in Birmingham with a friend form work. I went again this week so that’s twice in a month! Their pies are very tasty and they do a good lunch time deal of a pie and a side for £7.50. The chicken pies are my fav – this one was Chicken of Aragon – chicken and bacon – mmm!

So that was my April! A little late but hope you made it all the way through! The May bank holiday I went to Copenhagen with a couple school friends so I’ll make sure to get the recap up soon. Here’s a little teaser… it was just so colourful! I’ve saved my stories from Copenhagen on my Insta so you can have a sneak peak there – enjoy!

Right… time for me to get to work! Hope you have a good day!
Until next time,
Cathers xx
