Musings // Hey There 2020!

Happy weekend everyone! We’ve made the it through the first few days of January! And I survived my first couple days back at work – hopefully it makes a full week of work next week not as hard??? Probably not… I haven’t worked a full week in a month!

I’ve been thinking about what I want to achieve from 2020 so thought I’d have a look back at my 2019 resolutions which were…

Gym: 3-4 times a week with a mix of yoga, pilates and swimming

Drink more water: 3 cups of tea max a day
Mindful eating: Joe Wicks philosophy and only having 1 take away a week
Overall I think I’ve done better with the gym and exercise this year but can be so much better. I definitely got into it a couple times during the year and then dropped off completely. I’ve definitely gotten so much better with my daily tea consumption – I used to have so many cups a day but generally now only have 3-4 in the morning and then move to peppermint tea/ more water in the afternoon. On the topic of mindful eating… this hasn’t really happened although we did get better with minimal snacking.
I saw the following quote which I loved:

New year absolutely no need for a new you because you’re super – in fact maybe just be even more you!

So I think that’s going to be my philosophy this year!
After some thought, so I can be even more me, I’m going to focus on the below this year:

Gym

Aim to work out 3-4 times a week – try to keep up the running and sign up for some runs throughout the year. I’m aiming to run the Birmingham half marathon with a friend in October but want to do some 10ks before that. Also going to try and mix it up with some Body Pump classes, swimming, barre and pilates. Variety is the spice of life!

Try new things and visit new places

By trying new things and getting out of my comfort zone I always benefit so much even if it scares me. This year I’m hoping to try out skiing (which slightly scares me!) and explore more of the Midlands. We’ve been up here 4 years in April (can’t believe that!) and there’s so many places on our doorstep we haven’t been. Hoping to change that this year!

Getting my cook on

I get a bit of a rep when it comes to cooking up a nice meal… I either take way too long or throw a strop when it doesn’t work out (oops!). About 8 years ago I went up to Warrington to surprise Tim with a 3 course meal. I don’t think I ended up doing a starter and  remember being very excited about making mini beef wellingtons. They were delish! But I was still making them when Tim got back from his late shift at 9pm… 🙈 The pudding was a shocker – I tried to make summer puds but used way too much butter and they were actually inedible. Another time I wanted to make a cheesecake but was way too impatient and took it out before it was ready and it went absolutely everywhere – ie. floor, table… I was so upset! So I don’t make cheesecakes anymore 😂
So this year I want to try and either bake or cook up a nice meal once a month. I’ll keep you updated on my progress!
There’s other bits and pieces I want to do in 2020 like publishing a blog post once a week, seeing my friends more, making time for painting and I’ll make sure to make the effort. But ultimately I don’t want to set too many hard and fast goals set in stone so I don’t get demoralised if I don’t do them all… Either way here’s to a blank canvas and making 2020 what we want it to be.
Just a quick note before I sign off to say thanks for keeping up with me and following my blog. I can’t believe i’ve been doing this for a year and a half now… hope you all have a fantastic 2020 and know you can do anything you put your mind to!

Until next time,

Cathers x
