Musings// What I’m Grateful for…

I don’t know about you but I’ve been full of anxiety the past week and with the Corona Virus being all over the news and social media I’ve been trying to keep myself in check but it’s been a little tricky.

So to try and help myself I’ve decided to list down what I’m grateful for. I’ve seen a few people on Instagram storying things to be happy about in this uncertain time so thought I’d do this for myself:

The longer and brighter days
I don’t know about you, but I just feel like I have so much more energy when the sun is up first thing and the weather’s not so dank and dreary! This morning I didn’t feel so ergh and it didn’t feel like such a battle to get myself up and into the shower to start the day. Here’s to Spring just around the corner and meaning Summer is getting closer too – definitely my favourite time of the year! Some days I definitely feel like I was born in the wrong country and was made for California or Sydney!

Our 2 new hamsters:
A couple weekends ago, we decided to get 2 little Russian Dwarf hamsters – 2 little brothers called Bubble & Squeak. We had a little hamster before (Pip) who passed away back in September so we’ve been waiting for the right time to get a new one! When we popped to Pets At Home there were these 2 cuties so decided to get a bigger cage and bring them home. I love coming downstairs in the morning to hear the wheel going and watching what they get up to – they definitely bring a smile to our faces 🙂

Family and friends:
We live about 2 hrs in different directions from our family and our childhood friends. Mine are own South just on the outskirts of London/ in London and Tim’s are in the East Midlands. With Corona Virus I’ve been most worried about friends and family who are deemed high risk – my grandparents, family members with asthma, friends who have diabetes and others who have conditions effecting their lungs and hearts. Just because we can’t really visit them all at the moment doesn’t mean we can’t pick up the phone or have a FaceTime. I’ve made sure to pick up the phone once a day to give someone a call and make sure to send lots of texts – also helps me to know they’re all ok too 🙂

Getting creative:
What better time when we’re stuck indoors than to do something creative. For me I’m going to try and get my thoughts down on paper, I mean typed out, and keep those blog posts going. I’m also going to get my paints out again and do some painting. This is something I LOVE but just haven’t made the time for recently. Its been since about October so I’m going to crack out those paints! I’m loving Emma Carlisleatm along with Jessica Smith,  Nina Brookeand Lauren Taylor. I love all the colours and love giving their styles a go too. I love the countryside vibes and the seaside inspo too – all those blues and bright colours to lighten up a dreary day…

Working from home:
Being an auditor I’m lucky in that I can work from home. Being a fairly mobile team anyway we just plop ourselves down anywhere to work. We’re usually based in the centre of Brum but can be out and about at different sites around the country – last week I was in Kirkham – but all our travel has been put on hold for the next couple months and we are just auditing remotely. So between the team we’re trying to figure out a plan and being fairly flexible. I’m glad I have this option and feel like we can all be sensible and keep safe.

Community:
To begin with I thought how ridiculous is all this hoarding! The other month there was a big push on spreading kindness and then the supermarkets were being ransacked. In the past few days it’s nice to see people reaching out to the vulnerable and elderly to make sure they’re covered and have the help they need. Although they’re a little way a way, we’re keeping in touch with our grandparents and making sure they’re ok as well as high risk people.

Cosiness:
Don’t get me wrong… I am so looking forward to the warmer weather but there’s nothing wrong with keeping the comfy clothes on, lighting all the candles and making everything all cosy if we need to be staying in!

Getting through jobs at home:
We’ve had quite a few things cancelled coming up so what better excuse than to get all those jobs sorted at home. There’s sorting I’ve been putting off for ages – sorting out boxes I brought from home which I’ve had for years (like from 20 years ago!) and then resorting all my clothes. I can be a little horder sometimes so it’s a good time to get sorted! Get Marie Kondo in my life and see if things ‘Spark Joy’!

My health:
I’m grateful for this above all! For mine and Tim’s health… we’ve had a few things going on but I’m glad to be able to get up and about and not have to worry.

Having a house over my head:
Another thing I’m grateful for! Our first proper home together which we probably own a few doors on and a couple windows (don’t you just love getting your mortgage statement through and seeing how much you still owe… the joys!). We have a lovely house over our heads to come back to each day and I count my blessings for it.

My job:
sometimes it can be a pain in the bum but it gives me a stable income each month which means we don’t have to worry about living pay cheque to pay cheque.

So that’s what I’m grateful for today.

I think I’m going to try and write down 1 thing I’m grateful for each day going forward. This was fun and just reiterates how lucky I am 🙂 Its helped me feel less anxious and happy too. Give it a go!

What are you grateful for?

Until next time,
Cathers xx
