Mulled Cider: A Quick and Easy Recipe

A steaming cup of mulled cider

One thing I always look forward to when it gets to this time of the year… mulled cider!

There’s something about having a mulled cider when you’re at a German Market or at home as a nice treat between the end of October and December when its cold outside and you need warming up. Also perfect for Bonfire’s Night which is approaching quickly!

I’m not a huge fan of mulled wine 😳 (don’t shoot me!) so mulled cider is the perfect alternative.

I always use this recipe if we have friend’s over this time of year. 2 years ago we had some friends from London come to stay and we did fireworks in the garden complete with sparklers and then came back in for some warming mulled cider. We’ll ignore last year (COVID!).

It’s a crowd pleaser and very boozy! You’ve been warned!

Recipe is for 5 people and fills 5 mugs and is fairly quick.

On a low heat it takes about 10 mins.

Ingredients:

1 litre of still cider – I use Old Rosie

200ml of sloe gin – I use Haymans (delish!)

2 cinnamon sticks

1 star anise

5 slices of orange

Method:

Pour the cider into a large saucepan (we didn’t have a large enough saucepan so did it in our le crueset casserole dish) along with the cinnamon sticks and star anise and put it on a low heat.

Once it starts simmering add in sloe gin and slices of orange and turn off the heat.

Serve immediately in mugs or kilner jars with some slices of orange and a cinnamon stick if you’re feeling festive. Wrap up warm and enjoy it outside around a fire pit to keep cosy or get yourself under a blanket by the fire if you’d rather stay indoors. Best served with friends.

Its that simple! Be warned though… its very boozy!

Can be easily made ahead and then reheated when your guests arrive, but be warned… the flavours will be even more intense!

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Autumn! Enjoy!

Let me know what you think…

Do you have a go to Autumn evening drink?

Until next time,
Cathers xx
